Coming in July, 2016…
Mistah Graves. (C) Erika Goldring. |
This guy.
Whereabouts, you might ask? None other than the Green River Festival. Hosted by Greenfield Community College July 8-10 at the Franklin County Fairgrounds in Western Massachusetts, this lil’ Fest just came upon our radar on their 30th anniversary, hooray! Happy Dirty Thirty!
But the real cause of celebration here is the stellar lineup they’ve got for this year, including:
– Shakey Graves
– Dawes
– The Suffers
– Shovels and Rope
And another couple dozen artists. Some thoughts on these guys and gals:
– Shakey Graves’ And the War Came almost fell through the cracks on our blog. His latest album is one of those sleepers that makes you scratch your head… and relisten. And then scratch less listen more. We only gave it a 3.5 / 5, but now that we get it, it’s definitely a fantastic 4 / 5 kind of album. It’s a marked improvement over his debut, the quiet, almost muffled Roll the Bones, and is one of those albums that we, as your friend / confidant / legal advisor, advise you to listen through a few times before you decide. It’s actually really, really good, and now’s the time to hear him live.
– The Suffers are on the way up. We caught them at the Newport Folk Fest none too long ago, and while we’d liken their brand of hep soul to perhaps Sharon Jones + Dap-Kings, these Texans are certainly their own concoction. We don’t know how we missed their debut this past Feb, but we’re going out on a limb and guessing it’s fantastic. Will keep y’all updated.
– Dawes is Dawes. We love their 1st and 3rd full-length releases, and they’re always a gem live.
We think $110 is fine for a 3-day pass here. NOW GRAB IT!
